Carlton West, originally hails from Boston, Massachusetts. He attended the University of Notre Dame as a Notre Dame Scholar and earned a dual bachelor’s degree in Government/International Relations and Computer Applications in 1986. He next attended Florida Atlantic University and earned a master’s degree in business administration degree in 2002. Mr. West completed the requirements to become a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) in 2018 and continues to pursue personal, academic and professional education and training to advance his knowledge.
Mr. West began his professional career immediately following his undergraduate years at Saint Joseph’s Medical Center in South Bend, IN working for the Medical Director with the mandate to explore new and emerging health care technologies. In 1988 he moved back to his home town of Boston, MA and went to work as a technology professional and then a manager in such large and established financial institutions as Bank of Boston, Fidelity Investments, and State Street Corporation, a Fortune 100 firm where he held a number of positions and eventually served in the capacity of Vice President in the Global Network Planning and Management division, managing a local team of over 100 employees, providing services to over 6,000 internal employees and a large number of institutional customers. During this period Mr. West worked in virtually every area of information technology and gained a breadth and depth of expertise in banking and institutional investment systems and processing.
In 1999 Mr. West relocated to South Florida and continued to grow his banking and financial services career in that state’s fast-paced, merger-oriented community banking scene as a senior technology and operations manager in such institutions as Republic Security Bank, BankAtlantic, Union Bank of Florida, BankUnited, and Florida Community Bank. During the same period, Mr. West formed his financial technology professional services firm, New Trend Consulting Company. In 2011 Mr. West was hired as the Senior Vice President, Chief Information and Operations Officer for City National Bank of New Jersey (CNB). Mr. West returned to South Florida in 2019 and works for Service Finance Company, LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Truist.
Mr. West has evolved his skill set and taken on duties during his career to become the executive accountable for the entire back office of financial services firms ranging from mid size financial services firms and institutions. His duties over the past 13 years have included technology, innovation, financial operations, information security, cybersecurity, emergency preparedness, facilities management, vendor management, physical security, project management and operational risk management. Simultaneously, Mr. West has been asked to provide professional advisory and consulting services to financial services companies, banks and financial technology companies (fintechs) in the same areas he has worked in and managed within banks and he has provide these services through his company, New Trend Consulting. Throughout his career Mr. West has received recognition from his employers as well as professional organizations for performance, professionalism, excellence and his mentoring style of management.
Mr. West is a family man, married to his wife Maria for the past 20 years with 3 children and 4 grandchildren. He serves as a member of community and CDFI boards and previously served on the Board of Overseers for the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT).
