Prof. Ibrahim Sirkeci is Ria Financial Professor of Transnational Studies and Marketing and the Director of Regent’s Centre for Transnational Studies at Regent’s University in London. Dr. Sirkeci is also the pathway leader for MA in International Marketing. Previously, he has worked at the University of Bristol and private universities in Turkey. He is a graduate of University of Sheffield (PhD), MA in Economic and Social Demography, BA in Political Science and Public Administration from Bilkent University, Ankara, Turkey, and Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning in Higher and Professional Education, University of London, Institute of Education.
Dr Sirkeci has conducted research in the UK, Germany, Turkey and Iraq, often collaborating with distinguished international research teams. His research has been supported by national and international agencies including the British Academy, Higher Education Academy, the World Bank, governments and global companies. His research on remittances is sponsored by Ria Financial, a global money transfer company.
He has published several books, book chapters and articles in international peer reviewed journals as well as being a frequent contributor to mainstream conferences around the world. He has also appeared in popular media including CNN, BBC, Huffington Post. He is the chair of Turkish Migration Conferences and chaired The Future of Transnational Education Forum (2014).
Professor Sirkeci serves as editor for Transnational Marketing Journal, Migration Letters journal, Kurdish Studies journal, and Goc Dergisi while also serving at editorial boards of Journal of Research in Interactive Marketing and Population Review.
He has been a researcher and teacher at various universities in Turkey and United Kingdom and he is affiliate with a number of groups such as the British Academy of Management, the European Marketing Academy, the Fund for American Studies, the European Association for Population Studies and a Founding Member of the Asian Population Association.
His research interests are in the areas of International marketing; Transnational consumer behaviour; Transnational marketing strategies; Segmentation; Mobile consumers; Ethnic marketing; Remittances; Digital piracy; Marketing of business schools in Britain; Transnational mobility; Migration; Ethnic segregation and labour markets; Conflict; UK; Turkey; Germany; Middle East; Eastern Europe
Prof Sirkeci has published 3 research monographs, 4 edited books, 6 research reports, 1 proceedings, 3 compiled text book editions, edited over 30 journal issues, 25 peer reviewed journal articles, 23 book chapters, 33 working papers, articles and book reviews in other periodicals, and delivered 52 refereed papers and 44 invited papers in conferences, seminars, lectures and invited talks in Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Egypt, France, Finland, Germany, Greece, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Turkey, USA, and the UK. He joins the IMTC EMEA 2015 Conference where he will share his expertise.
One of his co-authored books (Cultures of Migration, U Texas Press, 2011) was named the Outstanding Academic Title in 2012 by Choice in the USA (2013 January). His most recent book is published by Springe in 2013: Transnational Marketing and Transnational Consumers. His 2012 book Migration and Remittances during the Global Financial Crisis and Beyond published by the World Bank became a sought after reference book.
