The Global Forum on Remittances and Development 2015 (GFRD2015) hosted by IFAD’s Financing Facility for Remittances is on the way today, Tuesday, June 16 in Milano, Italy at the Stella Polare Convention Centre, another of the activities of the year long Universal Exposition EXPO2015: Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life. IMTC is present at the Forum with a stand where Laura Marcela Quiceno and myself, Hugo Cuevas-Mohr will be welcoming colleagues, past conference speakers, sponsors and friends. The 3 day event starts with the PUBLIC SECTOR DAY and the first celebration of the International Day of Family Remittances. Wednesday is PRIVATE SECTOR DAY and Thursday is CIVIL SOCIETY DAY.

The GFRD2015 is a free development related event, where remittances are discussed in that context. It has been done before, in Bangkok, Thailand in 2013 and in Tunis, Tunisia before that. Every time IFAD has made a larger effort to attract the private sector, that included mostly banks, but in this one the MT Industry will be well represented. Close to 450 attendees are expected, from 72 countries, 45% from the private sector, 29% from the Public Sector, 18% from the Civil Society (NGOs) and 6% from the Academic Sector.
